Man on the Edge: Why Are Fans So Fanatical?

 Tens of thousands of people packed BB&T Ballpark Friday night for the Knight’s home game against Indianapolis, and thousands more were in uptown thanks to Speed Street. 

Generally speaking, NASCAR fans are some of the most dedicated, die-hard, true-blue, never-give-up people that an athlete could ever want on their side.  These are not fair weather followers.  They buy the hats, the coats, the shirts, and the products that their favorite drivers endorse.  Businesses know it too, which is why your favorite driver’s car is covered with all those stickers.  But the fact that they’re fans doesn’t explain why they’re so fanatical.

And of course it’s not just NASCAR and baseball that enjoy a die-hard fanbase.  Look at the outpouring of support Greg Hardy got when he was arrested recently.  His hard-core fans just won’t have any of it when people talk badly about him.
