Charlotte Veterans Build Habitat Home for Fellow Vet

CHARLOTTE, NC – Piece by piece, the red, white, and blue framing goes up on Gary Randolph’s future West Charlotte home.

The Vietnam Navy Veteran is helping build the home that will eventually become his own. “It’s truly a blessing,” Randolph says. “That everybody is coming together and working as a family, doing it for the Veterans.”

Most of the volunteers working on the house are Vets themselves, representing all branches of the military. “It just shows how Veterans, you know, stick with Veterans," Randolph says.

Volunteer John Baxter says he hopes projects like this will encourage others to think about helping Vets. “In all spheres, whether they came back in one good piece or they’ve had significant challenges, we’ve got to think about all of them, from top to bottom,” Baxter says.

For Gary, the house means much more than just a place to live. It’s also a new beginning.
He needs that extra space because he’s now raising his two grandchildren. “I’m truly blessed that I’m getting a home built and that my family and I have a place of our own,” Randolph says.

The home is expected to be ready for move-in just in time for July 4th. Wells Fargo is sponsoring the Habitat project with help from Charlotte-based UTC Aerospace Systems.
