SMYRNA, S.C. – The York County Sheriff’s Office has charged 62-year-old Kenny Lynn with four counts of attempted murder and four counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime. They say he fired shots into his neighbor’s home. John Meredith was inside the home with his daughter, her boyfriend and another adult at 11:30 on Saturday. He says, “I was in bed, asleep and I heard pow, pow, pow, pow, you know, several shots was ringing out.”
Meredith says he ran to the door just in time to see Lynn speeding away from his Smyrna, South Carolina home. Lynn is now in jail. The York County Sheriff’s Office says they recovered several .22 caliber shot gun shell casings from Lynn’s property, the same ammo shot into Meredith’s home.
The motive? Lynn allegedly thought Meredith’s daughter’s boyfriend killed his pet: a small, older, mixed breed dog. WCCB News @ Ten anchor Morgan Fogarty asked Meredith, “Did your daughter’s boyfriend kill the dog?” He replied, “I have no clue; I have no clue. Far as I know, he says he didn’t. And I believe him.”
Sheriff’s deputies confirmed Lynn has a 30-year-old outstanding warrant from New Jersey. Lynn is also federally banned from possessing firearms or ammo. He was also reportedly drinking the night of the shooting. Sheriff’s Office spokesman Trent Faris says, “Alcohol and guns don’t mix well.”
Meredith says, “I think he just got to ponderin’ and loving his little doggie, and you know, some people love their dogs. I love my dog. But not enough to hurt anyone over it.” He also tells WCCB, “I called the Sheriff’s (Office) and told ’em he’s making threats from prison that he’s got unfinished business.”
WCCB went to Lynn’s home Monday, and a woman living there told us she had no comment about the shooting. Lynn remains in jail with no bond.
