PARIS (AP) β The three top seeds at the French Open for the women have all been eliminated. Earlier this week No. 1 Serena Williams and No. 2 Li Na (lee nah) were defeated. Now comes word from Paris that third-seed Agnieszka Radwanska (ahg-nee-ESH’-kuh rahd-VAHN’-skuh) has lost to an unseeded player.
NEW YORK (AP) β The New York Rangers clinched a spot in the Stanley Cup finals last night by eliminating Montreal. This marks the Rangers’ first trip to the championship round since winning it all in 1994. New York advanced with a 1-0 win over the Canadiens last night to take the series in six games.
LOS ANGELES (AP) β The Los Angeles Kings will face the Rangers in the Stanley Cup finals if they can beat the Blackhawks in L.A. tonight. The defending league champion ‘Hawks forced this evening’s game with a 5-4 double-overtime win two nights ago. If Chicago wins tonight, the seventh game of the series would take place Sunday in the Windy City.
MIAMI (AP) β The Miami Heat are almost in the position of playing for another NBA championship. If they beat the Pacers this evening in Miami, they will advance to the NBA finals. If the Pacers win tonight’s contest the final game of the series will be played Sunday in Indianapolis.
DOVER, DELAWARE (AP) β Qualifying is taking place today for Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Dover International Speedway. As a new week of racing dawns a check of the point’s standings shows Jeff Gordon on top by 11 points over Matt Kenseth.
