CHARLOTTE, NC — The North Carolina National Guard’s 621st Survey and Design Team is deploying a team of engineers to Kuwait.
The ceremony was held in west Charlotte Friday at the Gerald A. Rudisill Army National Guard Readiness Center. Their mission is part of “Operation Spartan Shield.” The 14-member team will provide construction assistance, guidance and oversight.
“We’re getting rid a lot of the older housing barracks and stuff there and putting up hardspan buildings, and we’ll be providing the oversight and the drawings and the materials,” said Commander Wayne Thomas.
This 9-month deployment will be the team’s third. They deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005 and again in 2009.
