CHARLOTTE, NC – A second arrest has been made in the crash that killed a four-month-old child in North Charlotte. It happened Tuesday along Old Statesville Road.

The girl’s mother, Kayla Davis, is now charged with negligent child abuse.

Passengers say the baby was taken out of her car seat, and put in her mother’s lap so more people could ride.

Jeffrey Miller was one of many who stopped by the memorial Saturday.

“You gotta keep the baby in the seat belt all the time. That’s why they make car seats,” Miller says.

The driver of the Nissan Ultima, Thabiti Pierre-Lewis, was arrested Tuesday.

Police say he had been drinking. His charges include reckless driving and death by motor vehicle.
