Edge on Demand: Was Trading for Sgt. Bergdahl the Right Decision?

This video is no longer available.

Over the weekend, the US did what a lot of people believe was negotiating with terrorists.  And if so, it’s a major shift in policy, and in the way we handle international affairs.

Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl was the only American prisoner of war held in Afghanistan, and had been in captivity for five years.  On Saturday, the US agreed to release five Taliban prisoners being held at Guantanamo Bay in order to get Bergdahl back.  Just today, the White House said it was the “right thing to do”, even as critics wonder if the freed Taliban members might start planning new terror attacks.  Adding to the fracas is the question of whether Bergdahl was captured during maneuvers, or after going AWOL.

But either way, trading him for Taliban members is something a lot of people are questioning, and we want to know what you think about it.   Did the US do the right thing?
