COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) β€” College of Charleston coach Monte Lee says it took all of three games to see that the Cougars had what it took to play with anybody in the country.

Lee says his club used stellar pitching, steady defense and timely hitting on opening weekend to take two of three from Atlantic Coast Conference baseball power North Carolina.

The Cougars (44-17) get to showcase their talents again this weekend in the NCAA tournament’s best-of-three super regional series at Texas Tech.

College of Charleston was seeded fourth of four teams in the Gainesville Regional last weekend, yet defeated home-standing Florida in the opener before beating Long Beach State twice to reach the round of 16.

The Cougars are just the fourth No. 4 seed to advance since super-regional play began in 1999.
