Waukesha, WI — Two 12-year-olds accused of stabbing another girl and leaving her for dead were obsessed with an online character. Police in Wisconsin say the girls lured the victim to the woods, held her down, and stabbed her 19 times. The injured girl crawled away to get help after the attack. She’s in serious condition. In court today, a judge said the girls will be tried as adults.
“I recognize the young age,” said Court Commissioner Thomas Pieper, “but it’s still unbelievable. I guess if you want to put it that way, what’s outlined in the criminal complaint.”
Detectives say the girls believed they would be rewarded by the fictional character “slenderman.” The monster is a common theme in online short fiction.
