WADESBORO, NC — Two decomposing bodies were discovered inside a former funeral home in Anson County. Police made the discovery while serving a search warrant.
Former funeral director Mary McLendon reportedly lost her license in 2012. She confessed Wednesday to leaving one body wrapped in cloth inside a coffin instead of having it cremated, like the family paid for. Investigators found the second body under a table.
“Closure. I think it’s really going to be closure for the family. And I feel good about that, for there to be closure to a family,” said Wadesboro Police Chief Thedis Spencer.
McLendon confessed to leaving the body in the funeral home after a judge convicted her today of obtaining property by false pretenses. She faces at least six months in prison on that charge.
