WADESBORO, N.C. — Two decomposing bodies were discovered inside a former funeral home in Anson County. Wadesboro Police Chief Thedis Spencer told WCCB they made the discovery while serving a search warrant.
Former funeral director Mary McLendon was convicted in court on Wednesday for obtaining property by false pretenses. Chief Spencer says she failed to take a body to the crematorium after accepting cash from the deceased’s family members. Officials say they found the second body under a table.
The North Carolina Board of Funeral Services revoked the operating permit for F&M McLendon Funeral Home and McLendon’s license in 2012.
McLendon could face up to 6 to 12 months in jail.
