CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An off-duty police officer helped authorities catch an armed robbery suspect in east Charlotte.
Investigators say a man was getting into his vehicle after purchasing items from the Harris Teeter on Central Avenue when Robert Harris jumped in the passenger seat of his car, pointed a gun at him and robbed him.
The victim told an off-duty officer who was in the area he was just robbed. The officer contacted police and Harris was taken into custody a short time later. He has been charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon.
