CHERRYVILLE, N.C. — Police arrested a woman for illegally collecting money from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Β
Investigators say Amber Chapman deposited approximately $22,000 that was supposed to go to a veteran she was taking care of. Β
The veteran died and Chapman continued to cash checks sent from the government. Β
The investigation started after an internal review revealed the beneficiary died. Β Chapman has been charged with obtaining property by false pretense, computer fraud and forgery. Β
