CHARLOTTE, NC — A grieving father, calling out violence in the black community 24 hours after his son’s murder.

The young man, shot down just outside the apartment he shared with his fiancee and two small children. The father of that slain corrections officer is talking with WCCB.

“You never think it will come home to you. It always comes home to each of us,” says Joe Easley.

Losing a child. It’s the worst pain a parent can endure.

Joe Easley’s son Bias was killed Thursday night. CMPD officers were called out to the High Meadow Condominiums on Farmhurst Drive in South Charlotte, where Bias had been shot near a walkway.

MEDIC pronounced him dead on the scene.

“From my understanding, an altercation took place on Wednesday,” says Joe Easley. “And yesterday, evidently, they ran back into each other. And it escalated to his death.”

Now a father is mourning his son, and all the violence he sees around him, especially in the African American community.

“I’m just through with the black on black violence,” says Easley.

Joe Easley raised two sons in the Queen City, teaching them the value of sticking together as a tight family.

Bias Easley played football at Butler High School. His uncle Walter Eeasley is a former NFL player and Super Bowl champion with the San Francisco 49ers.

Bias grew up to become a corrections officer at Lanesboro Ccorrectional Institution in Polkton, while raising his own family. The 27-year-old had two kids, ages two and three.  He and his fiancee were living in the complex where he was killed.

“He was a good family man. He took care of his kids. I mean, he’s a corrections officer,” says Joe Easley. “He’s part of the system. So, therefore, they need to find out who done this.”

Homicide detectives were back at the murder scene again today.  This is the city’s 14th homicide  this year. There were 16 at this time last year.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
