PARIS (AP) β Top-seed and defending champion Rafael Nadal (rah-fay-EHL’ nah-DAHL’) will face second-seed Novak Djokovic (NOH’-vak JOH’-kuh-vich) in the men’s final at the French Open. Djokovic advanced with a 6-3, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over 18th-seed Ernests Gulbis before Nadal blew by fourth-seed Andy Murray in the other semifinal, 6-3, 6-2, 6-1. Nadal will be gunning for his ninth French Open title on Sunday, while Djokovic will try to become the sixth male to complete a career grand slam.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) β The Utah Jazz have hired Atlanta Hawks assistant Quin Snyder to replace head coach Tyrone Corbin, who was let go after three-plus seasons with the team. Snyder most recently completed his first season as an assistant with Atlanta. He was the head coach at Missouri for seven seasons, from 1999 to 2006, leading the Tigers to four NCAA tournaments and an Elite Eight appearance in 2002.
PITTSBURGH (AP) β The Pittsburgh Penguins hired a general manager and fired a head coach. Former Penguins goaltender Jim Rutherford has returned to run the front office after 20 years as GM of the Carolina Hurricanes. One of Rutherford’s first moves in his new job was to dismiss coach Dan Bylsma (BYLZ’-muh), who won a franchise-record 252 games behind the bench.
HOUSTON (AP) β The Houston Texans have signed No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon (jah-DAY’-vee-ahn) Clowney, who will be converted to linebacker after playing defensive end at South Carolina. He had 130 tackles, including 47 for losses, 24 sacks and a team-record nine forced fumbles in three seasons with the Gamecocks. The Texans hope the 6-foot-5, 266-pound Clowney will pair with 2012 Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt to create one of the most fearsome pass rushes in the NFL.
BALTIMORE (AP) β Johan Santana’s comeback bid is over. After the two-time Cy Young Award winner tore an Achilles tendon while pitching for the Baltimore Orioles in extended spring training on Friday. Santana was struck by a line drive, then stumbled when chasing the ball. The 35-year-old Santana has not pitched in the majors since 2012 with the New York Mets.
