CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Corey Lee, 36, died in a car crash after driving the wrong way on the Brookshire Freeway inner loop and crashing into a SUV early Sunday morning.Β
Lee was driving a 2013 Honda Civic between Independence Boulevard and the North Davidson Street overpass when he hit Jose Zarante, in a 2001 Dodge Caravan, head on. Zarante, 28, was taken to CMC with minor injuries.Β
Zarante tried to avoid being hit when he saw the Honda traveling toward him. The crash is still under investigation and detectives are looking into how the driver ended up driving on the wrong direction.
It is still unknown if alcohol or speed was a factor. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective R.C. Gormican at 704-432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
