NEW YORK (AP) β “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder” has gotten a lot of love β it has nabbed the best new musical Tony Award.
The romp of a musical, in which a poor man comically eliminates the eight heirs ahead of him for a title, beat out “Aladdin,” ”After Midnight” and “Beautiful β The Carole King Musical.”
In the show, Bryce Pinkham discovers he’s ninth in line to inherit a fortune, so he decides to eliminate the eight heirs of the D’Ysquith family standing in his way. Jefferson Mays plays all eight victims β two women and six men.
A steady draw since it opened in March, the musical features a book by Robert L. Freedman, music by Steven Lutvak, and wry lyrics by Freedman and Lutvak.
