CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte has a new budget, without a property tax hike. But homeowners will pay some higher fees. Monday, City Council approved the $2.1 billion budget for the upcoming year. The vote was six to two. The average homeowner will pay $20 more per year in water and sewer fees, and the storm water fee is going up almost $3 a year.
“Hope we can have some long-term stability in rates so that our citizens don’t have to get nickeled and dimed every year,” said Councilman Kenny Smith.
The budget also includes a $0.20 transit fare increase, along with pay increases for public safety employees, and approval for a $146 million bond referendum for the November ballot.
