CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Kenan Gay is back on the stand this morning after being accused of pushing Robert Kingston to his death outside of Ed’s Tavern in 2012.
Gay claims he was trying to protect his girlfriend, now wife, Liz, from unwanted advances from Kinsgston.
Gay seems less nervous today than he was yesterday. The judge continues to ask Gay if he was upset or jealous and he replies “No.”
Gay describes the first interactions between Liz and Kingston was Kingston acting “odd” and he could tell Liz didn’t know him.
Kenan Gay says that his friend joked that Kingston was trying to steal his girlfriend but says he wasn’t upset or jealous at the time. He also says that he knew Liz was uncomfortable after she turned her back on Kingston. Gay kept asking Liz if she was ok that night and she said “yes.”
Video from inside the bar shows Kingston staring in Liz’s direction and then walking away.
Gay says that he only had 2 beers at Ed’s but that he had four or five draft beers before going to the tavern.
The jury will visit Ed’s Tavern to get a close-up look at the scene today.
