SALISBURY, NC — Some good news Wednesday night involving the VA. The Mental Health Center in Salisbury is expanding, offering improved surroundings for veterans being treated for PTSD. The new 79,000-square foot facility opened with a ribbon cutting Wednesday morning. The center gives vets a home-like environment, while using the most current patient safety standards.
“This building is really equal, and now on par with the level of care that we provide,” said VA Medical Center Director Kaye Green. The new building cost $16 million and is already housing patients.
Meantime, the FBI has opened a criminal investigation into the Department of Veterans Affairs’ over-long wait times at the VA hospital in Phoenix. It comes as the US Senate approves a bill that makes it easier for veterans to get care away from VA hospitals.
