Β CHARLOTTE, NC —Β Dozens of dogs rescued from a suspected puppy mill in Rutherford County are waking up cleaner and healthier in Charlotte. Β Humane Society workers sedated nearly 56 dogs to shave off matted hair. Β The dogs were also tested for parasites, heartworms and skin infections. Β Some of the dogs have eye problems, ear infections and skin infections.

“Just this ball of fur, and then after 45 minutes, it’s a totally different dog,” said Humane Society of Charlotte VP of Operations Jorge Ortega. Β “It’s like a dog that was kept in a cocoon and then, you know, it’s a different dog. Β So total transformation.”

The rescued dogs include English bulldogs, yorkies, cocker spaniels, French bulldogs and shih tzus. Β The Humane Society hopes to get most of the dogs ready for adoption soon.
