PINEHURST, N.C. (AP) β Martin Kaymer has shot a 2-over 72 on a brutal day at the U.S. Open, good enough to maintain a five-stroke lead heading to the final round. After making only one bogey the first two days, Kaymer had five bogeys on his card in the third round Saturday. An eagle at par-5 fifth hole helped to limit the damage, and the 29-year-old German birdied the final hole to remain comfortably ahead of his closest challengers, Rickie Fowler and Erik Compton. Kaymer is at 8-under 202.

MADISON, Ill. (AP) β Darrell Wallace Jr. raced to his second career NASCAR Camping World Truck victory Saturday night, holding off German Quiroga at Gateway Motorsports Park. Wallace won last year at Martinsville to join Wendell Scott as the only black winners on NASCAR’s national level.
BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) “one spaceβ Paul Menard won the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday when leader Joey Logano was victimized by a flat tire with about five laps remaining. Menard ended up holding off Sam Hornish Jr. by a half-second for his first series victory since 2006. It was his first Nationwide start of the season.
