Wilmington Man Arrested At U.S. Open After Hitting Trooper With Golf Cart

PINEHURST, N.C. – A Wilmington man was arrested on multiple charges at the U.S. Open Championship after he struck a trooper with a golf cart on Saturday.

59-year-old Thomas Lineberry was charged with felony assault on a law enforcement officer and felony hit and run. Lineberry was also charged with driving while impaired and resist, obstruct and delay.Β 

Lineberry posted his $3,000 secured bond Saturday night.

The trooper, Ryan A. Goodwin, was treated at the SHP medical trailer for a minor leg injury and was released.
