PINEHURST, N.C. (AP) β Martin Kaymer (KY’-mur) blitzed the field to win the U.S. Open yesterday. He finished 9-under-par, eight shots in front of Rickie Fowler and Erik Compton. Kaymer is just the seventh wire-to-wire winner of the Open in its 114-year history.
BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) β Jimmie Johnson finished first in the NASCAR race yesterday at Michigan International Speedway. The win was his first on the Michigan track. Finishing second was pole-sitter Kevin Harvick.
DETROIT (AP) β The hottest team in baseball starts a series in Detroit tonight. Kansas City has won its last seven straight games and in doing so has moved to within 1 Β½ games of the first place Tigers in the American League Central.
