CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sources have confirmed for WCCB that Angelo Smith has a criminal record and has previously been charged with assault on a female in 2011, felony burning of a school house in 2004, and simple assault in 2004, all in Guilford county. Β Records indicate the District Attorney dropped the simple assault charge and Smith agreed to deferred prosecution on the other two.
Meantime, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s investigation into what happened to Smith’s current girlfriend, Bianca Tanner, is heating up. Β The 31-year-old mom and teacher hasn’t been seen since June 7. Β Thirty-year-old Smith reported her missing. Β Β

A search warrant made public Monday shows Smith told police the couple argued that night over a text message he got from an unknown person. Β Smith says Tanner had been drinking when she left their apartment with only a bag. Β There has been no activity on her cell phone or bank accounts.

Tanner’s three-year-old son Jarrod told investigators “Mommy got a spanking with the belt.” Β And, “Angelo kicked Mommy’s butt and made her cry.” Β The toddler also told police, “Angelo is mean to Mommy and hurt Mommy in the face.” Β The toddler is now with his father. Β Tanner’s sister Cerise Richardson said Sunday, “She has a three-year-old and it just, it’s just tearing us apart that he’s crying himself to sleep every night, wanting his mommy.”Β

Police also searched the couple’s north Charlotte apartment and took items including a laptop, foam bedding from the trash, a black zippered pouch with an empty magazine, two torn photos from the trash, and a gold post earring back, also from the trash. Β They also looked for a belt or paddle.Β

Investigators also found Angelo Smith has an outstanding warrant for domestic battery in Arkansas. Β His then-girlfriend told police Smith threw her onto the bed and smothered her. Β
