HICKORY, NC – Livestock on the loose! Several cows and a giant bull got loose after a trailer overturned on a major road in Hickory.
Hickory Police say the cattle escaped when a trailer overturned off the McDonald Parkway near I-40.
“I had a big bull coming towards my car! I was thinking, ‘What if this thing comes flying through my windshield?’ I wouldn’t be able to do anything,” said Holt.
Holt guesses it was close to a thousand pounds.
“It was probably the size of my car,” said Holt.
“I never saw a wild bull, I’ve never seen a bull anywhere, maybe upstate New York, but I’ve never seen them down here,” said Joe Campo, a Hickory resident.
Police say seven cows were loose in the area. It took three hours and several agencies to capture the cattle.
“I’m glad they caught him and nobody hurt him and nobody got hurt,” said Campo.
The driver of the trailer was cited for failure to secure load.
Hickory police say three officers had to be treated for heat exhaustion after helping capture the cattle. WCCB is told they’re doing okay.
