Officer Involved Shooting On West Trade Street

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police exchanged gunshots with a man on the 1800 block of West Trade Street overnight.Β 

CMPD responded to a call about an armed person who threatened a man just before 11 p.m. Monday. Officers were able to locate a man who matched the description. Police say when they tried to make contact with the man, he fired his handgun at them while running away.Β  Officer Christopher Miranda returned fire but does not believe he hit the suspect. No officers were injured during the shooting.Β  Police and a K-9 unit searched the area but were not able to locate the suspect.Β 

Police describe the man as a light-skinned black male, wearing a black t-shirt and black shorts. He was last seen on West 5th Street heading toward Flint Street.Β 

Detectives are searching the area and looking for any witnesses. The investigation is still in its early stages.Β 

Officer Christopher Miranda has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. This is typical department protocol.Β
