CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The number of kids suffering from a peanut allergy has tripled between the years of 1997 and 2008. That’s according to FoodAllergy.Org. Fortunately, a local team of NC State researchers is giving kids hope to ease the challenge.
Dr. Mary Ann Lila and Nathalie Plundrich with the NC State University’s Plants for Human Health Institute, based in Kannapolis, developed a fruit-infused peanut flour they say can desensitize kids’ immunology treatments.
The researches say the product is less allergenic.
The flour doesn’t prevent the allergy, but makes reactions less severe.
