HICKORY, N.C. — City crews will be testing sewer lines from July 7 to July 25 on Highway 321 to 1st Street SW and from Main Avenue to Highway 70 SW.
The testing may cause smoke to come from roof vents, building foundations and manhole covers. The city says that the smoke shouldn’t enter homes and is a non-toxic, odorless substance that’s harmless to humans, pets, foods and material goods.
The sanitary sewer evaluation is designed to identify defects that allow ground water and storm water to enter the system.
The testing will be conducted by McGill and Associates Engineering. The crew will be uniformed and will have identification badges.
Anyone with questions is asked to call the Public Utilities Department at 828-323-7427.
