Walls Closing in on Angelo Grayson Smith, Junior

There are now active warrants out in both states for both alleged crimes.  It’s unclear what this new Mecklenburg County charge has to do, if anything, with Smith’s missing girlfriend.  Tanner’s three-year-old son did tell investigators “Mommy got a spanking with the belt,” and “Angelo kicked Mommy’s butt and made her cry.” The toddler also told police “Angelo is mean to Mommy and hurt Mommy in the face.” 

 

But still, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police haven’t named Smith as a suspect in the homicide investigation into his 31-year-old girlfriend’s presumed death. 

 

We went to the couple’s north Charlotte apartment Monday.  We spotted a Sheriff’s Deputy with paperwork down the street, but it’s unclear why he was there.  Smith’s red Mustang was still parked out front, still under the gray cover, but no one was home.  Tanner’s family say he is no longer cooperating with police and not taking anyone’s calls.  Neighbors say they haven’t seen him in a week.  Tanner’s been missing now for more than two. 

 

Neighbor Mason Grier says, “I just hope that she’s okay. Wherever she is. I hope they find her.”  Grier lives across the street from the couple’s apartment.  He says, “I think he had something to do with it.” Grier continues, ” He has something to do with it, some type, form or fashion.”
