DETROIT, MI — A 12-year-old missing boy who turned up in the basement of his Detroit home was out of the hospital Thursday night. He’s not being allowed to talk to his father and stepmother.
Police found the boy behind boxes and a large plastic drum Wednesday. He had bedding, cereal and soda nearby.
His father, Charles Bothuell, appeared shocked when he learned on national TV where the boy was found. “For anybody to imply that I somehow knew that my son was in the basement, it’s absurd and it’s wrong,” he said.
Police don’t believe the boy was in the basement the entire time. They say they found blood in his room, which raises questions about abuse.
