DETROIT, MI — A 12-year-old missing boy who turned up in the basement of his Detroit home was out of the hospital Thursday night. Β He’s not being allowed to talk to his father and stepmother. Β
Police found the boy behind boxes and a large plastic drum Wednesday. Β He had bedding, cereal and soda nearby. Β
His father, Charles Bothuell, appeared shocked when he learned on national TV where the boy was found. Β “For anybody to imply that I somehow knew that my son was in the basement, it’s absurd and it’s wrong,” he said.
Police don’t believe the boy was in the basement the entire time. Β They say they found blood in his room, which raises questions about abuse.
