Missing Woman’s Family Surprised Boyfriend was in Chicago

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Angelo Grayson Smith, Junior has insisted to Bianca Tanner’s family that the missing 31-year-old teacher is his soul mate. That he had nothing to do with her disappearance. That he doesn’t know what’s happened to her.

Then he hired attorney Kenneth Snow.  And then Smith left town.  And when Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police issued a warrant for his arrest on Monday for one charge of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, he didn’t turn himself in.  But Thursday, US Marshals arrested Smith in Homewood, Illinois, just south of Chicago.

Smith apparently used to live there and still has ties there.  “I was in shock. Like, I had no idea he had even left Charlotte and went as far as Chicago,” says Cerise Richardson, Tanner’s sister. She says her family is still interested in hiring a private investigator to search for their relative.  They’re also considering billboards from Greensboro to Charlotte.

In the meantime, CMPD says detectives were in Chicago when US Marshal’s picked Smith up. They’re in the process of extraditing him to Charlotte.  CMPD has yet to name him as a suspect in what they are calling a homicide investigation.

Richardson asks anyone with information about her missing sister, or Smith, to come forward. She says, “We are definitely praying and hoping that this is just the first break in the case that will be the major factor in us finding her and bringing her home.”

Richardson says the misdemeanor charge against Smith is connected to the homicide investigation.  There’s a $5,000 reward for information about Bianca Tanner.  Call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
