CHARLOTTE, NC — Several Charlotte organizations joined forces Tuesday night to commemorate the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Fifty years ago Wednesday, Congress enacted legislation that helped change the racial dynamic in America, and especially here in the South.
Tuesday’s event at Imaginon in uptown looked back at 50 years of progress… and ahead at the many issues we still face.
“If we don’t take a look at the landscape and what’s going on in America, and worry about the people in America, we will not get any better,” said Huntersville resident Robin Bradford.
Ted Shaw, the newly appointed director of the UNC Center for Civil Rights, was the keynote speaker for Tuesday’s event.
