Here is the latest South Carolina sports news from The Associated Press

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) β€” Steady rain forced NASCAR to postpone the Sprint Cup race at Daytona International Speedway. The Coke Zero 400 will start at 11 a.m. Sunday. Showers soaked the 2 1/2 mile superspeedway and forced officials to delay the green flag and eventually postpone the race. This is the fourth Cup race affected by rain this season and the second to be postponed a day.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) β€” Barney Hall was to make Saturday night’s race at Daytona International Speedway his final event as the lead announcer for Motor Racing Network. But the race was postponed by rain from Saturday night until Sunday. The 82-year-old Hall has been calling races for more than 50 years, and will transition into a different role with MRN.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) β€” NASCAR Chairman Brian France said Saturday “robust” discussion will go into setting the 2015 schedule. A revamped format to the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship this season, coupled with NBC taking over the second half of the television schedule next season, gives NASCAR an opportunity to make scheduling changes. France says multiple weather delays this year at several race tracks as reason for considering tweaks.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) β€” Fans of Josh Wise now have Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s 11-year reign as NASCAR’s most popular driver directly in their sights. Voting opened Saturday for the award, sponsored by Sprint and the National Motorsports Press Association, and there’s no reason to believe Wise’s tech savvy fan base won’t be active participants. Wise won the Sprint All-Star fan vote in May in an upset over Danica Patrick. Voting runs until the day after the Nov. 16 season finale at Homestead.
