DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — The Charlotte Hornets say they’re looking into an altercation involving rookie P.J. Hairston and a person his agent described as an area high school player during a pickup basketball game at the Durham YMCA. The Hornets issued a statement Sunday night saying they’re aware of the incident and “are in the process of gathering additional information.”
WINCHESTER, Ind. (AP) — Brandon Jones won in his ARCA Racing Series debut Sunday, passing Mason Mitchell on the final turn at historic Winchester Speedway. The 17-year-old Jones, from Atlanta, made contact with Mitchell on the pass. Mitchell held on to finish second.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Ryan Zimmerman’s eighth inning single drove in the go-ahead run as the surging Washington Nationals capped a strong weekend with a 2-1 win over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann outdueled Jake Arrieta over six innings and left with a 1-0 lead.
ATLANTA (AP) — Wade Miley earned his first win since early May, Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run homer and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat Atlanta 3-1 Sunday to end the Braves’ nine-game winning streak. Miley allowed one run on five hits and one walk in 6 2-3 innings.
