NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The man who police say helped his wife fake her drowning to avoid jail time has turned himself in. North Myrtle Beach officials tell WCCB that Paul D. Arrington surrendered at the Department of Public Safety building around 4:00pm Thursday. It’s not clear yet whether Arrington will receive a bond hearing today or tomorrow.
Arrington and his wife, Amy, are accused of concocting a made-up story about her disappearance over the weekend. Paul initially told investigators that Amy told him she was going into the ocean for a dip and wasn’t seen again.
Amy was due to stand trial as a habitual felon in Charlotte this past Monday on a variety of charges including identity theft and forgery. She turned herself into Mecklenburg County officials Thursday morning.
She has several aliases, including Robinson, Sutton and Goeble.
Both Amy and Paul, both of Gaston County, now faces charges related to the fake disappearance story, too.
