Security Concerns at Rowan County Magistrate’s Office After Inmate Escapes

CHARLOTTE, NC: The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is reviewing security procedures at the Magistrate’s Office, following the escape of Jameel Stephens-Maddox. Rowan County Sheriff’ Kevin Auten is ordering the County Facility Maintenance staff to get prices from fencing contractors and other companies specializing in security and defense work.

The Sheriff’s Office is reviewing what led up to Stephens-Maddox’s escape. Investigators have determined that he was able to free his hands out of metal cuffs on both of his wrists and then left the holding area. Stephens-Maddox is now on the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Top 10 Most Wanted List.
