Family Of Seven Displaced, Dog Dies In House Fire

 CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Firefighters rescued four from a house fire at 11318 Astoria Dr. around 2.a.m. Saturday. The family of seven was displaced and the family dog died in the fire.

Investigators determined the cause of the fire was from a candle that was left unattended. The estimated property damage is $30,000.

Two adults and two children were taken to the hospital to be treated after inhaling smoke.

Heavy fire and smoke was showing from the two-story University area home when crews arrived. Firefighters removed one victim through the second story window and the other three were carried downstairs and outside. 

It took 26 firefighters 14 minutes to control the fire. 

Red cross assisted the family with clothing, shelter and food. No firefighters were injured.
