Cooker Starts Fire At Commercial Plant In Gastonia Early Sunday

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Excessive heat build up in a cooker is to blame for a fire at CBP Resources Incorporated that broke out just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Firefighters say it appears that the heat ignited the duct work around the device.

Crowder’s Mountain Fire and Rescue, Union Road Volunteer Fire Department and Ranlo Fire and Rescue responded to the fire at 5533 York Highway in Gastonia.

Crews found heavy smoke coming from the cooker being used at the plant. They were able to open the hatch and extinguish the fire.

It took 30 firefighters to control the fire and they remained on scene for over two hours.
