WASHINGTON, D.C. — A cease-fire failure in the Middle East Tuesday night.  Secretary of State John Kerry says he plans to travel to Israel Wednesday.

Hours after Israel agreed to an Egyptian peace deal, Hamas militants fired more than 40 rockets into Israel.  One rocket hit an empty school.  Officials say an Israeli civilian was killed when he was hit by a mortar shell.

“The content basically ignored all of Hamas’ key demands and reiterated everything in the previous cease-fire from two years ago,” said Khaled Elgindy, former Adviser to Palestinian Authority.

Israel quickly retaliated to Hamas attacks, targeting suspected ammunition sites.  Officials warned citizens in the northern part of Gaza to get out, possibly in preparation for a larger attack.
