ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Police have charged a man with involuntary manslaughter for allegedly hugging a toddler to death.
Investigators say 26-year-old Robert Kemp killed a 14-month-old child by hugging him so tight that the child could not breathe.
Medical examiners say the toddler, Jaylen Harris, died from asphyxiation. Kemp faces up to five years in prison. The charges were handed down more than a year since the child’s death.
Police aren’t saying what took so long for Kemp to be charged in the case.
