UKRAINE, – International outrage is growing over the attack on Malaysia Airlines Flight 17. The U.S. and the rest of the world are trying to determine from where the missile was fired and who is responsible.
The FAA has warned U.S. airlines to avoid the airspace over eastern Ukraine because U.S. officials believe a missile destroyed Flight 17. President Obama is pushing for an independent investigator to be allowed to examine the crash site.
Russian President Vladimir Putin led a moment of silence on Russian television, But protesters outside of the United Nations blame Putin for the disaster. He blames the Ukrainians for escalating the conflict.
Some hope the catastorphic loss of life might be an opportunity for a cease fire between Russian separatists in Urkraine. If not, it could create an even deeper divide between the east and the west.
Nearly 300 people died on Flight 17, including some of the world’s top AIDS researchers. They include former president of the International AIDS Society, Joep Lange, and World Health Organization spokesman, Glenn Thomas.
