CHARLOTTE, NC — City Council approved a plan to loosen zoning rules for Charlotte restaurants, bars and breweries.  The purpose is to clarify the existing zoning regulations and define what constitutes “entertainment.”

Current rules ban restaurants from providing entertainment.  Nightclubs, bars and lounges are allowed, but they must be at least 400 feet away from a residential area.  The changes mean breweries will need only 100 feet of space.

“Obviously it’s important to make sure that these are responsible and they don’t affect the neighbors that they’re around, but its also important that they are close by that they can add to the character of the neighborhood,” said NoDa Brewing Company Co-Owner Todd Ford.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg zoning committee also approved the recommendation.
