
IREDELL COUNTY, S.C. — Michael Honaker, 26, was arrested Wednesday and charged with felony infant child abuse after abusing his 2-month-old son.
The infant was flown to Levine Children’s Hospital where pphysicians discovered that he had a subdural hematoma and extensive bilateral retinal hemorrhages. Both of the symptoms are a result of being abused by shaking.
Honaker was also charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and felony assault inflicting serious bodily injury. He was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center under a $300,000 bond.
Detectives interviewed family members and the physicians at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte before arresting Honaker.
The baby was upgraded from critical to stable condition. Physicians say he still has serious injuries that will require a lengthy medical treatment.
It is too early to determine whether or not the infant will have any long term medical problems.
