SAN FRANCISCO (AP) β€” The San Francisco Giants have acquired right-hander Jake Peavy (PEE’-vee) from Boston for a pair of minor league pitchers, and he will start tomorrow night’s series finale against the Dodgers. Peavy is 1-9 with a 4.72 ERA but has been hurt by poor run support this season. He’s received two runs or fewer of support in each of his past eight starts.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) β€” The Packers have signed receiver Jordy Nelson to a contract extension. NFL.com is reporting it was a four-year, $39 million deal with an $11.5 million signing bonus. Nelson posted career-highs of 85 catches and 1,314 yards last season.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) β€” San Francisco 49ers running back Kendall Hunter is out for the season after tearing a knee ligament. The back-up to starter Frank Gore was injured in practice yesterday when his right knee buckled awkwardly as he tried to make a move during a non-contact drill.

ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) β€” Colts coach Chuck Pagano says running back Vick Ballard will miss the entire season due to a torn Achilles tendon suffered in practice yesterday. Last season, Ballard tore the ACL in his right knee during a September practice and missed the final 15 games.

BRIDGEND, Wales (AP) β€” Bernhard Langer (LAHN’-gur) will roar into the final round of the Senior British Open with an eight-shot lead after a 3-under 68 in today’s third round. Langer is at 14-under par. Langer is looking to add a second title to the one he earned in 2010.
