SAN FRANCISCO (AP) β Madison Bumgarner will try for his 13th win of the season tonight when he gets the start for San Francisco in the series opener against Pittsburgh. He’s won his last three starts with 2.21 ERA and has also thrown in his second grand slam of the season.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) β Kyle Lohse (LOHSH) hopes to start stringing wins together again when he gets the start for Milwaukee against Tampa Bay tonight. The 11-game winner picked up a victory in his last outing, but it was his first since June 22.
LOS ANGELES (AP) β Closing arguments are underway in a trial to determine whether the estranged wife of Donald Sterling can sell the Los Angeles Clippers to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer for $2 billion. At issue is Shelly Sterling’s removal of her husband from the family trust that owns the team after doctors found him to be mentally incapacitated.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) β Denver Broncos star Demaryius (deh-MEHR’-ee-uhs) Thomas, who is trying to work out a long-term deal with the team, is missing his seventh workout of training camp. Coach John Fox was hoping Thomas would be at practice today, but the receiver is apparently still making his way back from Georgia after the death of his grandmother.
