SALISBURY, NC – Wednesday marks one year since Erica Parsons was reported missing. No one has seen the teen since November 2011, when she was living with her adopted parents in Salisbury.
Erica’s biological mom is frustrated about the progress in the case. “I hold on to hope every day. I hope and I pray every day,” Carolyn Parsons says. “But it’s even harder when it’s the day before, and the Sheriff’s Department cancels a press conference.”
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office scheduled a media briefing for Tuesday, but instead e-mailed answers to questions we submitted last week. In the e-mail, a spokesperson wrote “…we advance this case, and are making progress on a continuous basis.” And, “We are still collecting and analyzing evidence to determine what, if any, crime has been committed and by whom.”
For a long time, attention focused on Erica Parsons’ adopted parents Casey and Sandy Parsons. They’ve moved to Fayetteville. The Salisbury home the couple shared with Erica and their other children has been renovated and is up for sale.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Casey and Sandy have not been named as persons of interest in the case. “What are they suspects of?” asks their attorney Carlyle Sherrill. “There’s nothing out there, that is, to charge them with at this time.”
Sherrill says the two were questioned again by the FBI last week. He says the couple is still committed to finding Erica, something her biological mother doesn’t believe. “Do I believe they are tied into this? Oh yes, I do. One hundred percent,” Carolyn Parsons says.
Carolyn moved back to Rowan County last month. She says she’s determined to keep pressure on investigators and not let Erica’s story go away. “I got off the bus and I went feet first, and I’m going to continue to go feet first until she is produced, one way or the other,” she says.
Carolyn Parsons is planning a candlelight vigil Friday night at Granite Lake Park in Granite Quarry. It starts at 7pm.
