MONROVIA, LIBERIA — President of Samaritan’s Purse Franklin Graham offered an experimental serum to Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol who are fighting the Ebola virus.
There was only enough of the serum for one patient. Dr. Brantly asked that they give it to Dr. Writebol. Graham says, “However, Dr. Brantly received a unit of blood from a 14-year-old boy who had survived Ebola because of Dr. Brantly’s care.”
Dr. Brantly took a bad turn overnight. He and Dr. Writebol remain in stable but “grave” condition according to the latest update from Samaritan’s Purse.
Samaritan’s Purse is working to evacuate all personnel to their home countries. They say they are taking precautions that go beyond the standards recommended by the Centers for Disease Control.
Dr. Brantly and Writebol contracted the virus after working to combat Ebola in infected patients in Liberia.
