From now on, stuff like this has an official name, according to the Associated Press. Β Not selfies, or even groupies, or even “group selfies.” Β They’re called “usies”. Β And the one thing they have in common with the “other-ies” is that they invariably show people at their best. Β And they are lying.
Get ready for a whole new round of usies, selfies, groupies… whatever. Β There’s a new app from Facebook and Instagram. Β It’s a video and picture-messaging app called “Bolt.” Β Ultimately it’s kind of like Snapchat and Tap-Talk, where the image disappears once the conversation is over. Β Like we needed a new one of those. Β
The timing is interesting, right after a Bustle.com post about how so many of the pictures we post are lies. Β Author Olivia Meunter peeled back what was really happening when she took some of her favorite picture posts. Β They all look like she’s healthy, successful, and having fun. Β But says she’s overworked, rushed, and manipulating the pictures to make her life look better.
And we all do it. Β Nobody posts a selfie when they get fired or wear something that makes them look bad. Β But what we want to know: is how much do people do it? Β So we hit the streets to ask how much you guys lie about your life in your picture posts…
