Man on the Edge: How Much Do You Lie on Instagram?

This video is no longer available.

From now on, stuff like this has an official name, according to the Associated Press.  Not selfies, or even groupies, or even “group selfies.”  They’re called “usies”.  And the one thing they have in common with the “other-ies” is that they invariably show people at their best.  And they are lying.

Get ready for a whole new round of usies, selfies, groupies… whatever.  There’s a new app from Facebook and Instagram.  It’s a video and picture-messaging app called “Bolt.”  Ultimately it’s kind of like Snapchat and Tap-Talk, where the image disappears once the conversation is over.  Like we needed a new one of those.

The timing is interesting, right after a Bustle.com post about how so many of the pictures we post are lies.  Author Olivia Meunter peeled back what was really happening when she took some of her favorite picture posts.  They all look like she’s healthy, successful, and having fun.  But says she’s overworked, rushed, and manipulating the pictures to make her life look better.

And we all do it.  Nobody posts a selfie when they get fired or wear something that makes them look bad.  But what we want to know: is how much do people do it?  So we hit the streets to ask how much you guys lie about your life in your picture posts…
