GASTON COUNTY, NC —Β The nephew of a former wrestling coach charged with sex crimes says one of the accusers wanted his uncle’s job. Β Gary “Scott” Goins faces nearly two-dozen sex charges involving students at East Gaston High School. Β

Tyler Goins testified in his uncle’s defense today, saying one of the accusers was upset about being let go as an assistant coach. Β Tyler testified that the accuser often talked about wanting to eventually take over the program.

“He’s always wanted to be the head coach at East Gaston,” said Goins. Β The defense attorney asked,Β “He’s actually said that?” Β “Oh yeah.. oh yeah,” replied Goins.

A former wrestler testified Goins fired the accuser as an assistant coach because he wasn’t showing up to practices. Β Three former wrestlers say Scott Goins touched them inappropriately and forced them to perform sex acts. Β He denies the accusations.
